National awards

The national awards for the Young Pavement Artists competition will take place at the Natural History Museum on 9 July 2009.

There are some fantastic prizes for the winners of the competition including an amazing family expedition to watch the grey whale migration, and a year's free subscription for National Geographic Kids and Anorak magazines.

We'll be contacting the winners shortly.

Our fabulous judging panel

Alexandra Baily: An artist with congenital muscular dystrophy, Alexandra designs her own cards for sale through her own dedicated website – Anda Cards. Alexandra wanted to become an artist from when she was a little girl, and although Alexandra needs extra support when she paints, she has dedicated her life to painting and interpreting the world around her through art.

Olly & Suzi: These artists have travelled the world capturing the story and beauty of endangered species in their natural habitat.  They have kindly donated one of their fantastic artworks featuring the endangered leatherback turtles. To find out more (link to Olly & Suzi page).

Supermundane (aka Rob Lowe):  Multi-disciplined artist, illustrator and art director whose work has been exhibited worldwide. He is currently the creative director of the kid’s magazine, Anorak and created a giant chalk drawing to help launch the competition at the Natural History Museum.

National Geographic Kids: The colourful monthly magazine for curious kids. As well as being on the judging panel, the kind people at National Geographic Kids will also be giving a years’ free subscription to the winner of the competition and will create a giant poster of the winning drawing.

Anorak magazine: The happy magazine for kids. As well as putting their judging hat on they will be featuring the competition and encouraging children all over the UK to take part.  They will also be giving the competition winner a years’ free subscription to the magazine.

Earthwatch: An international environmental charity, dedicated to creating a sustainable environment.  The winner of the national competition will win an Earthwatch trip to Canada to watch the migration of grey whales.  Find out more about Earthwatch.

Miranda Sawyer: An award-winning writer and broadcaster, she appears regularly as a critic on art shows and has written for the Observer, Guardian and Vogue. She was on the judging panel for the 2007 Turner prize and was recently appointed to the Tate Member’s Council.
