The winners from this year's Young Pavement Artists Competition can now be announced.
Jothikka Amaralingam, a 14-year-old student from Alperton Community School in London was the overall winner and crowned the Young Pavement Artists of 2010. Her picture of 'Mother Earth', which will be produced into a poster and will feature in an upcoming edition of National Geographic Kids magazine, inspired our judges.
Nick Sharratt, illustrator and one of this year’s judges said;
Jothikka’s picture captured the competition's theme, Strength in Nature. It not only demonstrated great use of colour but was original as well as beautiful.
There were also prizes for the winners of our three overall age groups. Levi Burrough the winner of the 4-7 age category won a safari ranger experience in Kent, Jake Preston winner of the 7-14 category won a PGL adventure holiday generously donated by PGL and Jothikka Amaralingham winner of the 14-19 age category won a lap top computer.
As part of their prize, the winner from each of our five age categories also received a wonderful canvas print of their creation, kindly donated to us by Tesco.
A canvas was also presented to Radipole School for winning the group banner entry for the second year in a row. Daniel Shumer won this year’s Mark Speight Originality Award with his wonderful picture of a tornado winning him a supply of art materials, and prizes of magazine subscriptions were awarded to all runners up.The competition raised thousands of pounds for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign that will help fund vital research, care and support for families with muscle disease.
