The Adam Myers Banner Award
The Adam Myers Banner Award is a special award for young people aged 4-19 who want to get creative and advertise their local school or group’s event. This category is also a good alternative for those who do not necessarily want to take part in the main competition.

2006 Banner Award winner - Play Montgomeryshire Play and Craft Sessions (Aged 4-18)
Background
This award was specifically created in 2002, after a young man, Marcus Roberts aged 16 (a member of Gap Community Project, Broadstairs), felt he was not good enough to enter the pavement art competition due to his dyslexia. Although he did not want to create a piece of pavement art, he was determined to contribute to the competition. He painted a long banner which promoted the group’s local competition. The national competition judges were shown his painting and were so impressed with it that they gave him a special award for his outstanding efforts. This award is now part of the annual competition.
The award is dedicated to the memory of Adam Myers who supported the competition from its inaugural event in 1986, along with his brother Steven. Both brothers had Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Steven died at the young age of 17. Adam refused to give up and went on to gain a degree in Media Studies and work with the BBC on projects such as The Tweenies. Adam not only took part in the Young Pavement Artist Competition, he also produced promotional materials and went on to judge entrants’ work. He died at Easter 2006. This award commemorates a very caring, determined and humorous man, who continues to be an inspiration to us all.
